Shaft Sinking & Underground Work
TC Surveys has been involved in several sinking projects, which are: the BRPM project, Maandagshoek project, Union and Waterval Project, Impala 17# & 20# Project, Paardekraal Project, South Deep, Twickenham Project, Styldrift and Wesizwe Project. This involved curb rings, steady brackets, tape brackets and cover drills needed to sink shafts.
The underground work varied on each and every project, from all the shaft equipping, the station surveys for the start and the initial development ends, survey peg installation and survey peg check surveys, silo and development tunnels scanning.
We also were part of many civil underground projects, such as farm gates, conveyor belts, chairlifts, rail systems, shoots and many more areas underground. We managed and handled all necessary survey requirements until the mine took over.
Even though we may not be a part of the start of a new project, we are still involved in several underground civil workings, which may be scanning areas for new buildings and surveying those new structures.
Opencast Mines & Stockpile Survey
Apart from the shaft sinking and underground work, the team was part of many opencast projects, and weekly and month-end measurements were arranged from coal, chrome, gold and sand/brick.
- Coal Mines – Vlakvarkfontein, Leeuwpan, Tumelo, Forzando, Wonderfontein Coal Colliery, Dorstfontein Coal Colliery and NBC.
- Chrome Mines – Stellite Chrome Quarry, Chronimet Chrome Mine, Nooitgedacht and Bokfontein.
- Gold Mines – Lifalethu Gold Mine, Kalgold Gold Mine and Pickstone Peerless Gold Mine in Zimbabwe.
- Sand/Brick – Thaba Romaana Granite, Pretoria Bricks and Copper Sunset Sands.
For the last part of a decade, we have kept an ongoing and solid relationship with Siyanda Resources and Anglo Platinum, where we have measured their on a weekly and monthly basis their chrome stockpiles, and more recently, we have been measuring Glencore International Coal stockpiles in Durban, Richards Bay and Maputo.
Civil & Engineering Survey
Over the years, we have been involved in several civil/ engineering projects outside the shaft sinking and underground work. These projects have ranged from small extensions to the building of new plants.
From the first Topo Survey to the last bolt surveyed, we have been involved in several new plants that have been built. Those plants are – Phola Cola Plant, Leeuwpan Coal Plant, Lonmin Chrome Recovery Plant, DRA/Group 5 JV Nokeng Flourspar Plant and all MCC Civils for their projects.
Aside from the new plants that have been built, we have also done numerous other projects for a civil survey: Isa Regrind Mill, High-Rate Tailing Thickener and UG2 No.1 Scavenger Flotation.
Arial Drone & 3D Scanning
With time and technology changing, we at TC Surveys have ensured that we have kept up with all the available new technology. This includes 3D scanners and drones.
Over the last couple of years, the projects that we have been involved in for detailed information with the 3D scan are ERPM Gold Mine, Wesizwe 72 Level loading bay, Modikwa South 2# Chairlift and Conveyor decline tunnels, Anglo – Amandelbult Concentrator scan and Sibanya Stillwater WLTR plant scan.
For the drone Surveys, we have been involved in the following projects: Worley Parson Modikwa Mine Road section, Kroondal Waste dump, Phakamisa Hard Rock Tailings Dam Volume calculation, Bokfontein Opencast Chrome, Wonderfontein Coal Colliery, Kal Gold Opencast Gold Mine, Pretoria Bricks, Meccano Aerial Lidar Survey for their plant extensions and then monthly Chrome volumes monitoring.
With all our drone flights, we offer an aerial ortho mosaic image with the report as part of our final product.
